At both our Daventry and Hitchin branches, we stock Calor gas bottles and offer gas bottle refills.

If you’re looking for an LPG bottle for your caravan, campervan or motorhome, or for domestic use, our friendly teams at both branches will be able to assist you.

Whether you’re after a propane gas bottle or a butane gas bottle, you will be able to get one from us. As a stockist of Calor gas bottles, we are able to supply you with a new gas cylinder if you don’t already have one, or offer you an empty for full exchange if you do.

What type of gas bottle do I need?

An LPG bottle is a must for a happy and comfortable holiday in your caravan, campervan or motorhome but it’s key that you choose the right type of gas bottle. If you require a gas bottle for domestic heating or commercial use, you should also ensure you are choosing the right type of gas.

Propane

For colder weather caravanning, propane is recommended. Propane is a versatile gas that can be used in a wide range of temperatures. As it has a lower boiling point than butane, propane remains a gas in colder temperatures and offers reliable performance even when the weather turns chilly.

Propane gas bottles are available from us in seven sizes:

• 3.9kg, 6kg, 13kg, and 19kg – suitable for use in caravans and motorhomes
• 47kg – suitable for outdoor, home energy and light commercial use
• 5kg and 13kg Patio Gas – suitable for domestic use

3.9kg/6kg Propane Gas Bottles

As they are smaller and lighter, 3.9kg and 6kg propane gas bottles are easier to handle and transport. Both of these sizes of gas bottles are suitable for providing a reasonable amount of gas for cooking and heating in your caravan.

13kg/19kg Propane Gas Bottles

If you use your caravan more frequently and are looking to be always ready to hitch up and hit the next pitch, a 13kg or a 19kg propane gas bottle will be more suitable. As they hold more gas, they will last longer and are the better choice if you are using the gas appliances in your caravan more often.

As the gas bottle is stored in the front locker in most caravans, it’s worth noting that the bigger the gas bottle, the more your caravan’s nose weight will increase.

5kg Patio Gas

Designed for domestic use and for barbecues, 5kg Patio Gas makes the ideal choice for smaller gas appliances. This size gas bottle is suitable for barbecues with three burners or less, pizza ovens, and tabletop heaters.

The small size of 5kg Patio Gas makes it light, easy to carry, and convenient to store.

13kg Patio Gas

13kg Patio Gas is also designed for domestic use and for barbecues. The larger size of these gas bottles makes it suitable for patio heaters, flame towers, and larger barbecues with four burners or more.

Butane

For non-winter use, butane is suitable. Whilst it has a higher boiling point and will not perform as efficiently in colder weather, it is an excellent choice for caravanning trips in spring and summer, and through to autumn.

Butane will only work effectively in temperatures above -2°C, so it’s not suitable for outdoor use in winter.

Whilst not suitable for all-weather use, butane is generally cheaper than propane. It’s slightly cheaper to purchase and is also more energy efficient. Butane will produce approximately 12% more energy than propane, so is ideal if you’re going to be using your gas appliances more frequently during warmer temperatures.

• 4.5kg
• 7kg
• 15kg

4.5kg Butane Gas Bottles

As they are smaller and lighter, 4.5kg butane gas bottles are easier to handle and transport. This gas bottle size is suitable for camping, caravanning, and boating, and is ideal for single-burner cooking appliances.

7kg Butane Gas Bottles

7kg butane gas bottles will last for a considerable amount of time when used for supplying gas to cooking appliances and heaters in a caravan, campervan or motorhome. This size gas bottle is also suitable for smaller indoor heaters and barbecues.

15kg Butane Gas Bottles

Due to their larger size, 15kg butane gas bottles are ideal for those looking for a longer lasting gas bottle for supplying gas to cooking appliances and heaters in a caravan, campervan or motorhome. Like 7kg butane gas bottles, 15kg butane gas bottles can also be used for indoor heaters and barbecues.

Gas Bottle Safety

To ensure the safety of yourself and those around you, it’s crucial that gas bottles are stored correctly and that you exercise proper care and attention when these are being handled.

When used in a caravan, campervan or motorhome, gas bottles should be kept in the dedicated, well-ventilated gas locker.
