FAQs
Do All Awnings Fit All Caravans?
There are universal size awnings that can fit most caravans, however, it’s still a good idea to measure your caravan to make sure you’re getting the correct awning, especially if your vehicle is on the bigger side.
How do I Know What Size Awning to Buy?
To ensure you’re getting the right size caravan awning you have to measure your caravan. For a full-size awning you have to take your caravan’s A-measurement. This is the distance (in centimetres) from the ground going up and all the way around the caravan’s awning rail, then back to the ground on the other side. Once you know the A-measurement of your caravan you can match it up with the right size awning. If you’re only looking for a porch awning, you will have to measure the height from ground level up to the awning rail of your caravan, as well as the straight section going across the top of the railing.
What Are The Different Types of Caravan Awnings?
There are multiple different types of caravan awnings, however, generally the three most popular are the full awning, porch awning or sun canopies.
What is The Difference Between A Motorhome Awning and A Caravan Awning ?
The main difference between a caravan awning and a drive away (motorhome) awning is the ability to stay up when not attached to a vehicle. A caravan awning needs to be attached to the vehicle in order to stand upright, whereas a drive away awning can be pitched unattached at the campsite just like a tent.
Do All Awnings Fit All Motorhomes?
Since there is such a wide variety of motorhomes on the market, there are no awnings to fit every single motorhome. However, most motorhome awnings do come in a few standard sizes, so before you purchase your chosen awning make sure you check its measurement to ensure it’ll fit your model.
Can You Attach an Awning to A Motorhome?
Yes, you can easily install an awning to your motorhome. Depending on the type of rail there are different ways to attach your awning. For motorhomes with a ‘C’ rail, you can use a fitting kit with a kador strip to attach the rail and parts of plastic in a figure-eight shape. If your motorhome has a ‘J’ shape rail – you will be able to easily clip the plastic attachments on and off.
Can You Sleep in A Motorhome Awning?
A drive away awning is essentially a big tent so you can use it for sleeping without any issues. For some awnings you may even be able to purchase additional sleeping compartments, so you can accommodate more people.
Are Drive Away Awnings Waterproof?
Yes, our drive away awnings are made from high-quality fabrics that are completely waterproof so you can use them no matter the weather.
Can I Leave my Awning Open in the Rain?
If you’re staying in your motorhome then you can leave your awning open even if it’s raining. However, if you’re leaving your vehicle unattended and heading off for the day it’s a good idea to close the awnings. While the fabric is waterproof, strong wind and rain can shear the fabric from the roller bars or arms and destroy the construction. Pooling water on the awning could also cause it to collapse.
