What Servicing Does A Motorhome Need?
There are two types of motorhome servicing – habitation and mechanical. The first one covers the ‘home’ aspect of the vehicle including the gas, heating and water systems, the heating system and all integrated appliances such as the stove or oven. The second is to do with the engine, chassis and other mechanical components of the vehicle. Just like with cars, you also have to service your motorhome’s brakes, oil and filters.
How Often Should A Motorhome Serviced?
Habitation servicing should be carried out annually to ensure that the gas, electric and water systems as well as integrated appliances are running smoothly. Depending on the mileage of your motorhome, mechanical servicing should be carried out on the engine and chassis at least every two years or at every 30k miles. It’s also recommended that you get the oil and oil filter changed at least once a year.
How Often Should You Change Oil in A Diesel Motorhome?
Oil changes in your motorhome should be done at about the same rate as in a car. In diesel motorhomes specifically, the recommended interval for oil changes is every 5000-7000 miles or at a minimum once a year.
Do Motorhomes Need MOT?
Motorhomes are technically passenger carrying vehicles, which means that they must go through a class 4 MOT in addition to annual service of the systems and appliances.
Do Motorhomes Need Road Tax?
Yes, just like your daily car, motorhomes need to be taxed annually. The only exception is for motorhomes that were built or first registered over 40 years ago, as they are exempt from paying road tax.
Does A Campervan Need an MOT?
Yes. Like most vehicles, your campervan needs to go through an annual MOT test. To ensure your vehicle can pass its MOT, it’s essential to keep up to date with servicing and maintenance.
